**Learn to SCUBA Dive and Explore the Rest of Your World **

San Diego, CA – Every New Year’s Day many of us set resolutions which we proceed to break within the first week of the New Year. Make 2012 different by trying a new activity that can also help you succeed at your resolutions for better health, more excitement and increased serenity.  Learning to scuba dive is the perfect activity that will let you keep your resolutions, while doing something fun that is good for your health!  It is an exciting activity that the entire family can enjoy for a lifetime.

Learning to dive is easy! The Diving Equipment Marketing Association’s (DEMA) Be A Diver program makes it easy to learn more about getting certified and contacting a professional dive center near you that will guide you through all the steps you’ll need to obtain your open water scuba certification.

“Scuba diving is the perfect activity to start off the New Year,” commented Tom Ingram Executive Director of DEMA. “Not only is it a great activity that can be enjoyed by individuals from every generation, it gives you the opportunity to meet new people and dive both close to home and in exotic destinations.”  Ingram added, “There is such a variety of diving available that it lends itself to almost every level of activity – from adventurous and action-packed, to serene and restful.  Diving can be enjoyed by anyone in reasonably good health and with a desire to try something new and different.”

When you become a certified scuba diver you gain access to the other 2/3rds of your world.  Once you’ve completed your open water certification and begin diving, you can expand your scuba skills and knowledge and challenge yourself with higher dive education. Advanced divers can explore shipwrecks which have slept on the ocean’s floor for years, capture underwater photographs of some of the most exotic critters that live in the deep sea, or dive with crabs, lobster and octopi during a night dive.   For more information on starting your diving adventure visit www.BeADiver.com.

Are you already a diver and looking for a new diving adventure?  Cache the fever of DEMA’s new in-water game for divers, DiveCaching. DiveCaching is an underwater variation of “Geocaching,” a decade old game that uses a GPS device and simple search skills to locate hidden containers called “caches.” This new game can be conducted almost anywhere underwater, regardless of visibility or dive conditions, allowing divers to explore new sites and visit favorite locations with a new eye for adventure and the excitement of discovering underwater treasure. For more information on DiveCaching visit www.DiveCaching.com.

DEMA, the Diving Equipment & Marketing Association, is an international organization dedicated to the promotion and growth of the recreational scuba diving and snorkeling industry, including providing legislative advocacy on behalf of the diving industry. With more than 1,400 business members, this non-profit, global organization promotes scuba diving through initiatives, consumer awareness programs and media campaigns, including the Be A Diver and DiveCaching campaigns, and produces the annual DEMA Show, a trade event open only to companies doing business in the scuba diving, action water sports and adventure/dive travel industries.
